Dekker Dreyer (Phantom Astronaut) is an author, educator, and artist creating visual, audio, interactive, and experimental media. Phantom Astronaut is based in Los Angeles, but projects exist in both the virtual & physical worlds.

BIOGRAPHY
Phantom Astronaut (Dekker Dreyer) is an artist working in film, music, visual art, & experimental media. He’s been called a “VR pioneer” by MovieMaker and Entrepreneur magazines and he’s developed a strong following on TikTok receiving tens of millions of plays and attracting a dedicated following of over one hundred thousand followers. His filmmaking endeavors began creating commissioned digital video art to accompany Naqoyqatsi (Godfrey Reggio, Philip Glass, and Steven Soderbergh). Now based in Los Angeles, Dekker’s projects have been showcased around the world at festivals like Slamdance and Art Basel. Recent works include the music video for Snowblood’s “I’m Ready” which premiered in Paper Magazine and his animated immersive projection show Joy Ride which recently ended a run at Catalonia Hotels. He’s collaborated with legends like Devo, Bootsy Collins, and Disturbed. Phantom Astronaut continues to push the boundaries between mediums.
As a writer, educator, and curator Dekker has spoken at the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance, Mobile World Congress, and other major conferences. Since 2016 he’s been the producer, and a curator of, the Slamdance Film Festival’s DIG (Digital, Interactive, & Gaming) program. He was the originator of the online Immersive Media Producing program at Columbia College Chicago and was the immersive media subject matter expert for University of Maryland. He attended undergraduate as Georgetown and also holds an AS in media with certificates in Social Psychology, Norse Literature, and Eastern Religions. He served on the board of communications at Stevens Institute of Technology and is a member of Mensa. His non-fiction essays, centered on politics, metaphysics, folklore, and digital culture, have been widely cited and his critically-acclaimed fiction is available in the collection Dark Astronomy. Dekker continues building community and creating context around digital art and subcultures through his Phantom Astronaut podcast and MNTL zine.
